One of the most challenging aspects of being a sales professional or running a business is you can and will get in slumps. Nobody is killing it all the time and you are going to have bad days, months ect.  What defines the superstars in any walk of life is the adjustments they make to get out of the slump. How exciting would it be if you could get your self out of slumps faster? Here are the keys to getting out of a sales slump NOW!

  1. Change your self talk-All of us have have tons of thoughts running through our heads on a daily basis. When you start to get in a slump, your self talk goes to hell in a hand basket. That’s why you need to SNAP yourself out of the bad self talk. To snap yourself out of bad self talk, you MUST get out of your head. To get out of your head you can- Meditate- Just close your eyes for 5-10 minutes and focus only on your breathing. Never meditated before? Download the headspace app for FREE in the App Store of your phone and it will guide you on how to meditate. Meditation works. I meditate daily and it has been a game changer for me. Most successful people do some sort of meditation because it slows down your mind. Workout consistently- Working out will change how you feel. I don’t care how busy you think you are. You’ve got to prioritize taking care of you first. By working out consistently, your performance will start to improve. Affirm yourself- This can be a little weird at first, tell yourself you are great, tell yourself you are confident in your abilities over and over again. Learning to affirm yourself consistently can get your mojo back. Learn to tune out your negative thoughts, focus on positive thoughts and believing your sales will get better
  2. Change your level of action– If you are in a slump, its because you didn’t take enough action. Make more calls than you have been on a daily basis. Start sending out more e-mails. Start doing things you have never done. Go visit prospects in person. Send gifts, GET CREATIVE! You don’t want to ever let your foot out of the gas because that’s how you end up in a slump.
  3. Invest and participate in your continuous development– Make time to read books that will develop you and your sales skill sets. Great books to read include- Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, How to Win Friends and Influence People- Dale Carnegie, The Secrets of Closing the Sale-Zig Zigler. Make sure to ACTUALLY IMPLEMENT what these books are teaching you. Deliberately practice- If there are certain objections stumping you, practice overcoming those objections with a role playing partner. If there are certain scenarios like your pitch that are not working out well, practice your pitch. Sales requires DELIBERATE PRACTICE for improvement. You get out of slumps by practicing and improving your skills.
  4. Make sure your systems are supporting your goals– Do you have a Customer Relationship Management software like Top Producer, Salesforce, or Zoho to help you track your activities and prospects? Are you tracking to see how you are progressing towards your goals? Are you setting goals? Systems will help you to get out of a slump because you aren’t guessing what your results will be. If this systems talk is sounding like a foreign language here’s the base level to start from-You want to be tracking all of the important and relevant numbers for creating the success you want. How many calls do you need to be making? How many follow up meetings do you need to have? How many of your demonstration meetings are you closing? If you don’t know your numbers and how you are progressing you are just drifting around!

At the end of the day, getting out of a slump comes down to you. How badly do you want out of your slump? It’s you stopping YOU. How messed is up that? Ready to get out of your slump? Start prospecting like your life depends on it, because it does!
